Bryson DeChambeau is a major champion again. For the second time in his career, DeChambeau topped the field at the U.S. Open, barely edging out Rory McIlroy after a wild final round at Pinehurst on Sunday.

McIlroy had a chance of forcing a playoff with DeChambeau, but he painfully missed a 4-foot putt on the 18th hole for what should have been a par. Instead, the Northern Irishman bogeyed on that hole before DeChambeau took care of his business with a par on the same hole to come away with the victory.

After the tournament, DeChambeau, whose other major win was also at the U.S. Open back in 2020 at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York, expressed his true feelings about McIlroy's painful blunder that led to the American's eventual win.

"Rory is one of the best to ever play. And being able to fight against a great like that is pretty special. For him to miss that putt, I'd never wished on anybody," DeChambeau said.

DeChambeau finished the event with an overall score of 6-under 274, while McIlroy, who hasn't won a major since 2014, concluded the week with a 5-under-275.
