Inside Out 2 blew all expectations out of the water this weekend, making a splash at the box office and becoming the first movie to debut above $100 million since last summer's Barbie .

Initially projected to make $80 to $90 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend, the Pixar sequel ended up raking in $155 million and an additional $140 million internationally for a worldwide total of $295 million.

That additional $140 million internationally is worth noting, as it surpasses Frozen 2 's $135 million international opening to become the biggest overseas debut for an animated film of all time.

In 2015, Inside Out opened domestically to $90.4 million and went on to gross a worldwide total of $858.8 million, $356.9 million of that coming from domestic ticket sales.

This success is a welcome win for Pixar, which has struggled at the box office with its last few films.
