A climate crisis in China has deeply undermined food production and will almost certainly lead to significant shortages in a nation with 1.3 billion people. According to CNN , “China is grappling with extreme weather as severe drought and record temperatures scorch the north while heavy rains inundate the south, raising concerns about food security in the world’s second-largest economy.” China is large enough geographically that parts of the country have suffered from drought and some from flooding. Wheat and rice production have been seriously hindered. Climatecrisis247 believes that this type of challenge will occur more and more often, and it will trigger geopolitical unrest eventually as food production falls sharply in some regions and the need for food is higher in others.

Some land is disappearing along Bangladesh’s shores. Its entire southern border is on the Bay of Bengal. According to Semafor , sea levels are expected to rise 60% faster than the average worldwide. “An estimated 20 million people live in the coastal regions of the South Asian country, much of it just a few feet above sea level, and storms regularly bring seawater inland, killing crops and turning lakes and wells salty,” the newsletter reports. Climatecrisis247 believes this is similar to some forecasts for parts of the US coast. One estimate is that 60% of Miami will be underwater 25 years from now.

    Heat Deaths In US

Heat deaths in the US may top the 2,300 total from last year. The weather has already been more dangerous than in the first half of 2023. The number of tornadoes has already set a record year to date. There have been unexpectedly strong wind storms, the most violent of which was in Houston. Florida has been inundated with record rainfall. Hurricane season has not started. Climatecrisis247 believes these death counts are low. People whose deaths are due to heat-related illnesses may be categorized as dying from related causes like heart attacks and strokes. This tends to make the extreme weather problem seem less severe than it is.

    New Wildfires

Wildfires near Los Angeles have burned almost 20,000 acres and are not under control. Over 1,000 people have been evacuated from the area. According to The New York Times, Daniel Swain, a climate scientist from the University of California, Los Angeles, said, “This is a taste of what’s to come.” Climatecrisis247 believes that the wildfire season in the West could set new records this year, and climate conditions like drought and high winds make them more likely. Just as important, the threat of these fires has spread to other parts of the US, which include Texas. In March, the Posthouse Creek Fire burned about one million acres.
