Waseca senior Cody Vagts and junior Hunter Anderson traveled to Jordan’s Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course to compete in the class AA State Championship Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. With storms forcing significant delays Wednesday, the final round was cut to nine holes with Vagts finishing in a tie for 63rd while Anderson finished tied for 73rd in the 88 player field.

Vagts picked up birdies on hole No. 1 both days and finished the 27-hole tournament with 12 pars including seven of them on the back nine of the first day. Overall, his final score of 125 earned him a share of nine-player tie for 63rd.

For Anderson, his final score of 127 earned two-way tie for 73rd with him scoring a birdie on the par three No. 17 hole on day one. On the second day of competition, he recorded three pars over the course of nine holes with a thrilling shot coming on the par four No. 2 hole.

After hitting an iron to the tall grass just past behind the green, he chipped the ball onto the putting surface and the ball rolled within inches of the hole before coming to a stop by the hole, allowing Anderson to tap in the putt for par.

With the state tournament completed, the spring season officially came to a close for the Waseca Bluejays.
