The Yard Milkshake Bar in St. Pete – What to Order for the Ultimate Sweet Date

In 2019, husband and wife team Logan and Chelsea Green stood in front of a panel of five “sharks” on the ABC show, Shark Tank promoting their unique ice cream spot, The Yard. Unlike other ice cream shops, The Yard scoops and blends wild concoctions of milkshakes filled with everything from Fruity Pebbles Ceral to edible cookie dough. Today, there are 31 stores across the US, and the Tampa Bay area is lucky enough to be home to two of them!

We were recently invited to visit The Yard’s location in St. Pete and got a behind-the-scenes look into the making of these funky and delicious creamy creations.

The Milkshakes Bring all the Boys (and Girls) to The Yard

Sure, you can get a regular scoop of ice cream at The Yard, but what they’re best known for is their milkshakes. And these are not just any old milkshakes. Mason jars are filled with creamy, ice-cold shakes and topped with items like cupcakes, cheesecake slices, brownies, doughnuts, cookies, and candy. Talk about a delicious date night!

The menu is loaded with an array of different types of milkshakes, along with three specialty milkshakes of the month (and a secret menu…make sure to check their site ). We decided to try the Ultimate Oreo Shake from the regular menu and the Pretty in Pink from the June specialty menu.

Each pint-sized Mason jar is slathered with frosting on the rim and then depending on the shake, cookies, sprinkles, or other small toppings are added and stuck to it. In our case, it was mini Oreo cookies on one and vanilla frosted animal cookies on the other.

    Creating the Pretty in Pink

Once the shake is blended and added, it’s topped with whipped cream and more toppings. Our Pretty in Pink shake was blended with strawberry cheesecake ice cream and topped with marshmallow drizzle, a scoop of strawberry edible cookie dough and sprinkles.

The Ultimate Oreo was filled with cookies and cream ice cream and crushed Oreos and topped with one Oreo Cakester, a Cookies N Cream edible cookie dough scoop, one Oreo cookie, and crushed Oreos on top.

Once you’ve polished off your shake, you can take it over to the special wash station and wash out your Mason jar to take home! Genius!

    Other Over-The-Top Treats

Although the milkshakes are the stars of the show, they have a menu filled with other sweet treats in case sipping on a shake isn’t your thing.

Along with the milkshakes, we tried one of their Loaded Cones. The Cookies N Worms Cone was a waffle cone stuffed with Cookies N Cream ice cream and topped with gummy worms, whipped cream, and crushed Oreo cookies.

If you’ve been with your sweetheart a while, indulging in something like these ice cream cones is a great way to feel like a kid again.

    The Loaded Cone

Grab a pint jar filled with edible cookie dough in different flavors or try it as a dipped cookie dough pop. You can also get a Calf Cup Combo. Layered edible cookie dough is topped with ice cream and toppings. Of course, if you prefer a good old-fashioned scoop of ice cream sans toppings, they have a multitude of flavors.

If you two are just getting to know each other this is a good way to discover each other’s favorites. Ask questions and get a better understanding of each other – what are their favorite flavors, and why?

They also have a full menu of gluten-free, vegan, and lactose-free versions of many of their regular menu items. If you have little ones in tow, they can order from the Kids Favorite Picks menu.

    What Did We Think?

These milkshakes were no joke. They were perfectly crafted and almost too pretty to drink. But we’re glad we gave in because the taste was 10/10. The cone was super tasty and a good alternative to have in case you want something a little less than a full milkshake.

The Yard is definitely one of our top picks for a fun dessert and especially great to beat the outside heat. Make sure to bring yourself to The Yard for a sweet summer treat – we promise you won’t be disappointed.
