On any given day our writers, editors, and contributors go through an imposing number of new releases, giving recommendations to each other and discovering new favorites along the way. Each Monday, with our Pitchfork Selects playlist, we’re sharing what our writers are playing obsessively and highlighting some of the Pitchfork staff’s favorite new music. The playlist is a grab-bag of tracks: Its only guiding principle is that these are the songs you’d gladly send to a friend.

Chicago post-punk trio Lifeguard have shared two new songs: “Ministry / Energie” and a cover of the Wipers’ 1980 classic “Telepathic Love.” Both were recorded in Los Angeles with No Age’s Randy Randall. They’re out now digitally, but will also come out on a 7" vinyl record on October 25 via Matador. Check out both tracks below.

Galaxie 500 have announced a new album of outtakes, B-sides, rarities, and previously unreleased tracks. The collection, Uncollected Noise New York ’88-’90, will be released digitally via 20/20/20 on September 20. (Silver Current Records is handling the vinyl, CD, and cassette releases.) According to a press release, Cook made his new track by deconstructing the original and reassembling it, keeping intact the vocal melody of the late singer Dolores O’Riordan. “When I got the stems, the first thing I did was listen to Dolores’ vocal tracks in isolation,” he explained. “Hearing those for the first time was magical; I was shocked by the intimacy and emotion in her performance. The first thing I did was to sit with the vocals on their own and rework the chords on piano. I often find that this is a great starting point with remixes as it helps you to shake off some associations that you have with the song, and this is a song which I’ve known and loved for over 30 years.”
