Fruit flies are the uninvited guests that seem to show up just when you're about to enjoy a nice, relaxing meal at home. And then stay... Seemingly forever. These tiny, pesky critters buzz around your fruit bowl and make your kitchen their playground until all you want to do is get rid of them (or even burn your entire kitchen down).

Fortunately, TikTok creator John Brown has come up with a simple yet effective solution that promises to get rid of fruit flies forever. That's right—prepare to reclaim your home from these bothersome bugs!

Why Fruit Flies Invade Your Home

Fruit flies are attracted to ripened or fermenting fruits and vegetables, as well as other sugary substances. They sniff out the scent of these foods with their keen sense of smell, and before you know it, they’ve made themselves comfortable in your kitchen. These insects reproduce rapidly, laying up to 500 eggs at a time, which can hatch in as little as 24 hours.

It's important to remove any food sources that might attract fruit flies. This includes making sure your fruits and vegetables are properly stored, cleaning up spills immediately, and taking out the trash regularly. However, even after you've cleaned your space super well, some fruit flies may still hover around, hoping you'll slip up and bring back their easy meal. This is where John's trap comes into play.

To get started, you'll need a few household items that you likely already have on hand. Grab a jar or small cup, some apple cider vinegar , a Ziploc bag, a rubber band or hair tie, and a piece of watermelon or another sweet-smelling fruit.

Begin by placing the fruit at the bottom of the jar or cup. The sweet aroma of the watermelon will act as bait, luring the flies into the trap . Next, pour enough apple cider vinegar into the jar to just barely cover the fruit.

Now, take the Ziploc bag and cut it diagonally. Cut the tip of the triangle without the zip so that you have a small opening. Insert this piece of plastic into the top of the jar or cup, making sure that the small opening is positioned above the vinegar and fruit mixture. Finally, secure the plastic in place with a rubber band or hair tie, ensuring it won't move around. The whole idea here is that fruit flies will enter the trap through the small opening in the plastic bag, but once they're inside, they won’t be able to escape. The flies become trapped and eventually drown in the vinegar.

This method not only helps you get rid of the adult fruit flies but also prevents them from reproducing and multiplying. You'll notice a significant reduction in the number of fruit flies in your home within a short period. It's a simple and natural solution that avoids the need for harsh chemicals or expensive store-bought traps.
