A few days after it was reported that Yann Demange had exited Marvel’s Blade reboot , Snipes posted the following message on X : “Blade, lordylordylordy [eyes emoji] folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough. Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they? [smiley face emoji]”

How long has Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot been in development?
Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot was announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. Mahershala Ali ‘s casting as the titular dhampir — a term referring to a half-human, half-vampire — was also revealed at that time. Development on Blade has been nothing short of turbulent, with multiple writers and directors coming and going over the last five years.

Stacy Osei-Kuffour and Bassam Tariq were the reboot’s original screenwriter and director, joining the project in February and September of 2021, respectively. Tariq departed Blade exactly one year later, citing creative differences and a shifting production schedule as the reasons for his exit. In November 2022, Demange was tapped to helm Blade, with Michael Starrbury coming on board to rewrite Osei-Kuffour’s script.
Three more writers have since taken a crack at Blade: True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, Logan screenwriter Michael Green, and Eric Pearson . The latter is the current, and hopefully final, screenwriter attached to the project. Pearson, whose involvement in Blade was first mentioned earlier this month, has previous experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , working on the screenplays for Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Black Widow (2021), as well as the upcoming Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four (both 2025).
Marvel Studios’ Blade will be the fourth live-action movie to feature the Daywalker following the Snipes-led trilogy that was released between 1998 and 2004. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the trilogy was a hit at the box office, with its commercial success often being credited with paving the way for other Marvel Comics adaptations like Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise.
Blade is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.
