Approximately 15 people were displaced by a fire incident, and all were long term residents in the Budget Inn Hotel in Alamogordo on White Sands Blvd over the weekend. Teamwork between Alamogordo Police Department, Alamogordo Fire Department, American Red Cross and Mountain View Church ensured all affected parties were provided lodging, food and assistance to ensure they had safe lodging for the weekend as reported by Alamogordo Town News.

The fire happened a little after 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at 2404 N. White Sands Boulevard. Thirteen rooms within the hotel were damaged and the building suffered significant structural damage, according to the Alamogordo Fire Department.

    There were no reported injuries.

The people displaced in the fire were all long-term residents of the hotel, according to the Alamogordo Fire Department.

The first arriving fire unit reported heavy smoke coming from the north side of the building. It was quickly confirmed that all rooms had been evacuated, utilities were shut down and interior fire operations were put into place. Chief 1 arrived on scene and assumed command of the incident.

    Fire Department.

Heavy smoke pushing out of the vents and eaves of the structure indicated that the fire was in the attic area. Crews were sent on the roof to vertically ventilate the structure. A coordinated ventilation and suppression operation quickly ensured the fire was suppressed in the attic space.
