There are several ways sunlight is reflected from the atmosphere toward the sun. Clouds, ice, snow, and the sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere following volcanic eruptions, which can have some of the most significant effects, are among them, but not enough to offset global warming. The particles from volcanos reflect sunlight into space, which lowers Earth’s temperature. As temperatures worldwide rise and ocean temperatures spike, none of these, even taken together, is effective enough.

Mirrors have been considered a way to cool some areas, particularly residences, but lower the heat hitting roof and wall surfaces. From time to time, this is put forward as a solution.

Can mirrors be a way to cool some areas where temperatures have soared well above 100 degrees F on most days during the late spring, summer, and early fall, particularly when these high temperatures go on for days or weeks?

    Mirror Panels On Roof

The BBC reports that this is possible. An organization called Mirrors for Earth’s Energy Rebalancing has created a product that, the news service reports, builds “The panels, which he said can help reduce internal temperatures by over 6C, involve a highly reflective coating made up of recycled materials.” The product also helps reduce water use and, therefore, helps prevent drought.

Climatecrisis247 believes that although this may work well locally, it can’t scale. This technology is needed in too many places, especially in poor nations, which cannot afford the technology or the infrastructure to make installations across tens of thousands of houses.

Like other climate solutions, it is too expensive and complicated to implement.
