The dreaded “3 H’s” of Summer: Hazy, Hot, & Humid Tuesday with isolated storms

Tuesday looks a lot like Monday with hazy skies, high humidity, and soaring temps. West of I-77, temps push into the mid 80s by lunch with feel like temps pushing the upper 90s. It won’t be a comfortable day. East of I-77, the mountains provide some relief with highs in the mid 80s.

Heat and humidity induced pop-up showers and thunderstorms are likely in a highly isolated fashion. With little wind in the upper atmosphere, much like we saw Monday, these storms won’t move much dumping quite a bit of rain over one localized area. After the storm rains itself out, the sunshine returns to really crank up the humidity values. Special care for those with breathing issues should be taken.

Tonight showers that do form will fade and we’ll be left with a rather muggy night. Temps drop back slowly into the 70s with a few spots dipping into the upper 60s. Not exactly a comfy night.

Wednesday our potential heat wave continues with highs in the 90s and high humidity. Heat index, what it feels like, will rise into the upper 90s nearing 100. In this heat it is important to keep yourself safe and avoid outdoor activities from 10am to 4pm as much as possible. Take breaks, drink plenty of water, and keep an eye on you and those around for you heat exhaustion and heat stroke signs. An afternoon pop up shower or rumble of thunder is likely with very heavy rainfall. After the rain ends, humidity levels will be running high enough to cause health concerns for those with pre-existing conditions.

Thursday is the same with highs in the 90s and high humidity. Another day to take care of yourself and those in your life that struggle with the heat. Check on neighbors and friends. While sunny for much of the day, afternoon pop up downpours and thunderstorms come with the heat and humid air-mass.

Friday is another scorcher with highs racing into the low 90s with feel like temps in the mid to upper 90s. High humidity will lead to poor air quality which will affect those with breathing issues and other pre-existing conditions. Monitor your health closely if spending anytime outside from 10am – 4pm and take breaks when overheated.

Saturday a few isolated showers and storms are possible which will keep temps in the upper 80s. It won’t matter much as we still hang onto the high humidity making it feel much warmer than what the thermometers read. Showers and storms fade into the night leaving us steamy into Sunday morning.

Sunday better chances of showers with afternoon storms. Temps will fall shy of 90 with the building of afternoon thunderstorms. Still, high humidity will lead to it feeling hotter with heavy downpours likely into the evening. As a cold front approaches, thunderstorms are likely with strong winds possible and very heavy rains. Localized flooding is possible, especially for those area’s that have already seen a few storms this week.

Monday we finally start to see relief from the overly muggy heat with highs into the mid 80s, few in the mountains in the upper 70s/low 80s. Humidity levels drop thanks to passing showers from time to time. As cooler air builds in, our atmosphere can’t hold as much water leading to some brief and localized heavy rains. A few thunderstorms likely into the late afternoon and early evening.

In your extended forecast summer begins Thursday and the summer heat is already here. The first weekend of summer and beyond is looking to live up to the name with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s with little in the way of relief from the heat any time soon.  Eyes will be on the drought conditions as we remain relatively dry over the next several days. No widespread rain chances in the near future.
