Family's Over-the-Top Basement 'Playhouse' Is Nicer Than Most People's Real Homes

Kids love having a space of their own, whether it's a bedroom or a playroom or a playhouse in the backyard. These are safe places for little ones to use their imagination and create a world where they make the rules...and if you're lucky, they might even invite you to join them!

In a video posted on June 17, one mom shows off her kids' basement playhouse — but it's not the typical plastic structure most families have for their toddlers. Nope, this is more like something you'd see at a children's museum or some kind of epic indoor play space (and you'd probably have to pay a fee to get in!).

"I just love this playhouse so much!" wrote @kylerandmad . How could you not love it?! Commenters were ready to move in.

"The play house is nicer than my real house," wrote Goldie Leland.

"As an adult, I would play there," wrote Marina Yaromich.

"I would purposely pick fights with my husband and then just go sleep in the playhouse," wrote 2024Musings.

"Playhouse? That's bigger than my apartment," wrote The Crystal Tonic.

Apparently, this family is about to move to a new house (which is why the mom is so sad). But chances are their next home will have a similarly jaw-dropping playhouse...or play village!

Why Indoor Playhouses Can Be Good for Kids

Of course, not every family has the resources to create a structure on par with the one in this video (in fact, the vast majority do not), but less elaborate indoor playhouses can be good for children's development too, as Forbes reported.

"There are endless benefits to providing your child with a playhouse of their own, says Amanda Vierheller, COO and cofounder of Playgarden Online, an online preschool program. 'Kids’ playhouses are magical places for little ones to enjoy experiential play and follow their curiosity,' she says. They help develop cognitive, gross motor, social and emotional skills, as well as encourage problem solving and language development through playing with peers. 'They also provide children with opportunities to learn through sensory exploration and promote creativity and imagination through hands-on play.'"

Indoor playhouses are the perfect setting for pretend play , as well as activities like arts and crafts and other creative pursuits. Another great thing about indoor playhouses is that they give kids a constructive way to keep busy even when it's raining, snowing, or super hot outside (or if you have things to do inside and you can't keep an eye on them outdoors).

And remember, you don't need to have a full-on two-story town in your basement for your kids to have a good time! A modest "starter home" can be just as much fun.
