Some people never learn — and Barbra Streisand is one of them.

The singer and actress is famous not only for her accomplishments, but for being the namesake of the phenomenon known as the Streisand effect, which describes how attempts to conceal something end up drawing more attention to it. In 2003, Streisand sued a photographer for taking an aerial photograph of her home. While only six people had downloaded the picture prior to her failed lawsuit, hundreds of thousand more saw it as a result of her litigious response to its being taken.

On Monday, history repeated itself. Several videos of President Joe Biden have gone viral in recent days for their apparent demonstration of his old age and lack of awareness. Conservatives have argued that they serve as evidence of his mental and physical decline, while Biden allies have submitted that they are cheap shots devoid of context. Streisand, a liberal who has mused that Donald Trump “lies as easily as he breathes” and has said that she “can’t live in this country” if he retakes the White House, falls squarely into the latter category.

Which is why on Monday, Streisand tweeted “The NY Post is printing lies about President Biden. No other media outlets should amplify its disinformation.”

The rest of the platform had a field day with it.

“I had not heard about this. But now that you’ve brought it to my attention, I will certainly check it out. Thank you, Mrs. Streisand. Your tweets are having a real effect,” replied conservative activist Christopher Rufo .

“‘Do not look at this thing I don’t want you to look at’ said Streisand! How can this be real? The writers are outdoing themselves in 2024!” remarked Fox News contributor Mary Katharine Ham .

“Might have to check out this thing I hadn’t heard of before,” joked CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski .

The Washington Free Beacon ‘s Chuck Ross , meanwhile, simply posted as screenshot of Wikipedia’s explanation of the Streisand effect with the caption “Wow, she did the thing.”

In other news, Neville Chamberlain has just negotiated another deal with Germany and the New York Mets have agreed to another 25-year extension with Bobby Bonilla .
