Rachel Maddow Calls Supreme Court ‘Flagrantly Corrupt,’ Says They’ve Already ‘Effectively’ Given Trump ‘Immunity’

Rachel Maddow accused the Supreme Court of effectively giving Donald Trump “immunity” ahead of their actual ruling on arguments about his claims of presidential immunity.

Maddow joined The View on Tuesday and primarily focused on the former president’s various legal woes following her coverage of his conviction of more than 30 felony counts in his Manhattan hush money trial.

The MSNBC host called it “crazy” that the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case about Trump’s claims of sweeping presidential immunity in the first place.

“It’s crazy that they took the case at all,” she said.

By “sitting on it for months,” Maddow added, the court has given Trump immunity anyway.

“In realistic terms, he’s already got immunity because they’ve already delayed things so long that the stuff that he did in 2020, he’s not going to be tried for before he potentially gets back in the White House and then once he’s back in the White House, all those cases go away,” she argued.

Maddow, who fears Trump could put her in a “camp” during a second term, said she’s not “optimistic” about the ruling expected to come before the court’s summer break because they have sat on the case for so long.

She went on to call the Supreme Court “flagrantly corrupt.” While Maddow did not call out any judges specifically, she referred to Justice Samuel Alito’s wife hanging an upside-down American flag following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot (widely seen as a sign of support for election fraud claims). She referenced another Justice, but did not name them or their alleged ethics problems. Conservative Justice Clarence Thomas has also been under the spotlight over a report from a watchdog group about millions in gifts he’s received while serving on the court.

Maddow claimed the same ethics concerns would have more consequences at her network.

“I work at MSNBC, if there was a member of my family lobbying the White House chief of staff, saying, ‘overturn this election result,’ you think they’d let me cover that election results, let alone give a binding judicial ruling on that election result?” she said. “I mean, the blatant corruption of a couple of these Supreme Court Justices is John Roberts’s problem.”
