Sir Ian McKellen Hospitalized After Falling off Stage

Sir Ian McKellen was committed to hospital after falling off a stage.

The 85-year-old actor, who plays Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and Magneto in X-Men , took a nasty tumble during a performance of Player Kings at the Noël Coward theater in London.

According to a report by the BBC , McKellen “had been performing in a fight scene when he seemed to lose his footing.”

Following the fall he “cried out in pain, calling for help, and a staff member rushed on stage.” The play was immediately cancelled, and McKellen was taken to hospital.

Thankfully, following a scan, he’s set to "make a speedy and full recovery,” and "Ian is in good spirits,” a theater spokesman says.

Not only will McKellen soon be back in action, he’s actually expected on-stage by Wednesday to perform Player Kings . It’s a production of Shakespeare's Henry IV, Parts One and Two , and started its 12-week West End run in April.

It’s not the actor’s last dance with Shakespeare. He’s about to play Hamlet in an upcoming film adaptation directed by Sean Mathias. Plus, Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf on this one condition .
