Landscaper Shares Cool Hack for Easily Installing a Gardening Path
By Lauren Wellbank,

If you've ever installed a garden path, or done any sort of landscaping that involved pulling up the grass to make way for something new, you know exactly how hard and time consuming the process can be.
Often, your best course of action is to get a rototiller and rip up the grass that way, but if you've ever used one you know how hard that can be on your back and shoulders.
That's why we're loving this brilliant hack from a professional landscaper that seems to embody the whole "work smarter, not harder" philosophy!
It looks like @growingedensgarden used an edger to remove the grass from the area where he was installing a walkway for his customer, allowing his partner to come through behind him and easily rake out the chunks of grass and sod left behind.
If he would've done this with a shovel it would've taken forever and been much harder on the body (ask us how we know), so this definitely seems like the easiest way to do this kind of job .
Of course, not everyone was on board with the OP's instillation process, and a few people chided him for not using a weed barrier before laying down the crushed granite and Texas shaped stones .
According to the OP, the customer didn't want anything like this added, but laying something down over the dirt will definitely help with keeping weeds down in the future.
Man Uses Old Cardboard To Create Weed Barrier for New Garden
If you're looking for a no-dig option that's a little less labor intensive, you can also try this hack that has been going around for a few years now. It involves putting old cardboard boxes directly on top of your grass before layering mulch over top of it.
The cardboard serves as a weed barrier and the mulch helps to hold it down. When you're done you're left with a beautiful (and weed free garden), and nobody will be able to tell the difference between this and a traditionally installed one.
That being said, as someone who has done this method before, not all types of cardboard are created equal, and some thinner cardboard will break down much faster than others, allowing weeds to grow through if you're not careful. Also, you'll need to add a whole lot of mulch on top of it to keep the cardboard and weeds at bay, so make sure you have a lot of supplies on hand to make this idea work.
No-Dig Path Looks Amazing When Finished
All in all, we think that the OP's idea is a really good one, and it looks like it will make a wonderful addition to his backyard. Hopefully he has a management plan for those pesky weeds though, he'll likely be dealing with them before he knows it!
