Snapping Turtle Nearly Takes Off Bass Fisherman’s Hand On The Release: “We Still Have All The Fingers”

A bad day of fishing beats a good day of doing just about anything else. Wetting some lines and sipping on ice cold beer, all while losing track of time out on the water like your inside of a casino? Sign me up. It really doesn't get any better than that, and there's only one thing that can ruin a fishing trip. A snapping turtle. Pound for pound, they are the nastiest, gnarliest, meanest reptiles on the planet. Their bites can exert a force of 210 Newtons (pretty impressive for their size), and they look as menacing as any other wild creature walking the Earth. You don't want to mess with one, that's for sure, and fortunately for us, they usually aren't all that aggressive. But try telling that to this bass fisherman. He was doing a little catch and release in a smaller body of water and had just reeled in a sizable bass. The guy took his camera out to document his catch, and continued the footage as he returned the fish to the water, saying: "Biggest bass of the season going back in the f**king water. Swim off you beautiful, beautiful..." Just as the bass kicked away and swam off, its motion stirred up enough dirt in the water to create a camouflaged cover for the approaching snapping turtle. In the blink of an eye, the snapping turtle lunged forward and snapped its jaws down, barely missing the man's fingers. The fisherman screamed like a horror movie's antagonist had just tried to slash him, and once he backed away from the water, he realized the wild footage he had just captured: "AGHH... I just got that on f**king video." It was the textbook definition of a close call, and the fisherman needs to be counting his blessings for getting away unscathed.
