The Junkies are 'tantalized' by the idea of the Commanders landing Brandon Aiyuk

Because the TikTok dropped late morning Monday, The Junkies didn’t get a chance to talk about Brandon Aiyuk and Jayden Daniels’ now-viral conversation until Tuesday morning – but suffice to say, after sleeping on it and then playing the audio again, The Junks are intrigued by what it could mean.

“Everybody mocked me when I said he’s very close with Jayden Daniels, and that they were talking,” EB said. “There’s not a lot going on there, but it is interesting.”

“Is that Aiyuk’s way of saying I want to come play with you and I want you to throw me touchdowns?” Bish asked. “The 49ers have the second-highest payroll in the NFL, a ton of big money guys, and drafted two wideouts.
It’s part of the business, you can’t pay every one of your guys. What if Brock Purdy has another good year? You gotta pay him $250 million if not more, and you can’t pay all these guys.”

“You can’t give all those guys top of the market money for their positions and fit everybody,” Cakes said. “Somebody has to be on the outside looking in and it may or may not be him.”

That led to wondering if the Niners are maybe waiting to see what Aiyuk does (i.e. hold out of camp) before they make a move, but as EB read Aiyuk’s stats, him saying ‘literally a guy at the peak of his powers’ isn’t hyperbole…and maybe good news for Washington?

“He's a young stud who would instantly upgrade your wideout room, and he would just be a huge addition,” Cakes said. “If you could find a way to finagle them and pull it off…ohhhh,” EB said.

“I guarantee you, Adam Peters is thinking about it,” Bish replied.

CBS Sports has a list of five potential landing spots and the Commanders are one of them, and we do have Daniels and a lot of Niners ties as Aiyuk confidantes…and the Commanders do have ‘a ton of money to spend,’ so could it be a match, even if just for a year pending what you need to give up?

“I can only dream about a scenario where we would have McLaurin, Aiyuk, and Dotson, and then maybe sprinkle in a little Luke McCaffrey learning the position, with Zach Ertz at tight end and Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson,” EB said. “That’s actually a a formidable talent base if you can gain protection up front.”

“A 1-2-3 punch of Aiyuk, McLaurin, and Dotson is kind of tantalizing,” Cakes said.

There are reasons to not do it, of course, but…

“Everyone talks about how, unless you're the Chiefs with Mahomes, you have certain windows, and striking while the iron's hot on a rookie deal with a quarterback,” Valdez said. “So what’s the point of waiting to make this move when you have the salary cap to do it now before Jayden gets a second contract. What if he turns into CJ Stroud, and all of a sudden you’re ahead of schedule?”
