Epcot has evolved a lot over the past few years, with a long-running construction project slowly adding new attractions to the park while renovating old ones. The upgrade process brought us GOTG: Cosmic Rewind, The Way of Water with Moana, Celebration Gardens, and a ton of other exciting updates.

While this construction phase has officially concluded, Epcot is still making a few additional changes and updates to older attractions around the park. Unfortunately for Epcot lovers, that meant saying goodbye to one of the park's most beloved rides- at least for now.

Test Track 1.0 was always one of my favorite Epcot rides, and I remember being kinda miffed when they made the big jump to Test Track 2.0 . The car customization feature was neat, but I thought the ride's aesthetic change was weird. Nevertheless, many Test Track 1.0 fans happily made the jump to 2.0. After 12 years of operation, however, Test Track 2.0 finally closed down on June 16 for renovations, according to theme park expert @dylantpe . The ride itself isn't going away, per se, but it will undergo yet another transformation into the newly-updated Test Track 3.0.

    A Return to Form

As Dylan explains, General Motors has sponsored Epcot's transportation pavillion since the high-concept park opened in 1982, and has regularly paid for updates and new attractions since. Before Test Tracks 1 and 2, the pavillion was the home of GM's first Disney ride , World of Motion, which operated from 1982 to 1996.

According to the Disney Wiki, World of Motion was a dark ride that took guests through the history of transportation from prehistoric times to the modern era (I never got the chance to ride it, but it sounded like a transportation-themed Spaceship Earth ). Dylan claims that Test Track 3.0 will be "inspired" by the original World of Motion ride in an apparent return to form, but exactly what that inspiration will entail remains to be seen.

    How the Fans Are Feeling

Just as many Test Track fans (myself included) didn't dig the ride's last big update, a lot of people are sad to see the more recent version go, and are apprehensive about the ride's newest transformation.

"I'm going to miss the car customization. I made some interesting cars after a few drinks in World Showcase ," @derscroot reminisced.

"...I'm going to miss this version of Test Track, idk how the original version was but this is my favorite Epcot ride," said @tinkjess.

It wasn't all doom and gloom in the comments, though. Some Disney fans were still excited to see what the future of Test Track has in store, even if they're sad to say goodbye to the old one.

"OMG no... I'm excited for the change, I'm just sad I'll never get to ride it again as it is. Excited to see what's new!" @take_flight_trin expressed those mixed feelings.

How long will Epcot guests have to wait on Test Track 3.0? That we don't know. Disney World has not set a reopening date yet, but according to WDWMagic.com, most reputable estimates put its reopening at least a year out . Hopefully the long wait will be worth it- fingers crossed!
