Platkin and the Division of Consumer Affairs announced today that Walmart has agreed to pay $1.64 million to settle allegations of unlawful unit pricing practices across its 64 New Jersey retail stores. The Aurora City Council will consider using opioid settlement money Monday to pay for drug treatment for clients of its yet to open homeless services campus. The council will vote during its study session whether to spend money from the fund on a peer advisor, a van to transport clients from the navigation center to treatment, and a case manager. The city will receive about $14 million in opioid settlement funds, according to a presentation by city staff to the city council.

Barbara Hallick Yeomans made her remarks during public comment period of the City Council meeting. She said her son grapples with substance abuse and mental illness and repeatedly has been harassed by police. She said her son also suffered verbal abuse by a guard in the Denver County Jail. Yeomans said she heard the guard harassing her son over the phone.
