The Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library has announced a $20,000 challenge grant from former Baltimore County Councilwoman Cathy Bevins.

This “10-Day/20K Challenge” aims to close out The BIG Give, the Foundation’s annual celebration of giving, which ends on June 30.

Cathy Bevins, a passionate advocate for community services and public resources, has long recognized the vital role that libraries play in enriching the lives of Baltimore County residents.

Bevins, a Democrat, served on the county council from 2010 to 2022. She represented District 6, which at the time covered central-eastern and northeastern segments of Baltimore County.

“I am proud to support Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library with this challenge gift because I believe strongly in the power and importance of libraries,” Bevins said.

“They serve as community hubs, offering resources that range from job skills training to access to social workers, plus countless other resources. Some of my most cherished memories are of taking my grandchildren to the Rosedale Storyville.

“I was thrilled and proud when it first opened, bringing much-needed attention and resources to the county’s east side. Libraries play a crucial role in strengthening our communities, and I am honored to contribute to their continued success.”

The “10-Day/20K Challenge” calls on community members to contribute and help match Bevins’ generous donation, doubling the impact of every dollar given.

The BIG Give is Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library’s annual fundraising campaign, celebrating the vital services and programs provided by the library system.

Sonia Alcantara-Antoine, CEO of Baltimore County Public Library, expressed her gratitude for Bevins’ support.

“On behalf of the Baltimore County Public Library, I extend our deepest gratitude to former Councilwoman Cathy Bevins for her generous donation. Cathy’s unwavering dedication to public service and her steadfast commitment to her community have greatly enriched all of us,” Alcantara-Antoine said.

“Her challenge grant will help us continue to provide valuable resources and services to the residents of Baltimore County. Thank you, Cathy, for your enduring partnership and remarkable contributions.”

To participate in the “10 Day 20K Challenge” and support the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library, donations can be made at foundationforbcpl.org through June 30.
