The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks recently shared its latest compilation of construction photos of the new Hazelwood Skate Park in Rosedale.

This $4.3 million project is expected to be completed by the fall, BCRP officials confirmed. Since BCRP and county government officials broke ground on the property last October, the skate parks construction seems to be making appreciable progress.

In collaboration with the Baltimore County Skateboard Council, BCRP sought input on the design of this modern skate facility, which will feature components for all skateboarding skill levels, from beginner to expert.

“We look forward to the ribbon cutting and we hope the skating community is excited,” BCRP officials said in a statement.

Hazelwood Skate Park will be Baltimore County’s second public skate bowl style facility, becoming an eastern Baltimore County counterpart to the Lansdowne Skate Park, which was constructed in the 1970s. The skate park project is situated within the 3.4-acre park addition area that was purchased at a cost of $970,000 in 2009, according to BCRP officials.

Similar to other local parks, Hazelwood Skate Park, will be open from dusk to dawn, with signage indicating this. The project does not include lighting or fencing, recreation and parks leaders said.

BCRP received nearly $2 million in grant funding assistance, including $1.3 million in Maryland Local Parks and Playgrounds Infrastructure (LPPI) funding, $535,000 in Maryland Program Open Space (POS) funding and $150,000 in state aid secured at the state legislature.

The aforementioned funds will go toward the $4.3 million construction project.

This project will build upon other completed, underway, and planned recreation and parks projects in the greater Rosedale and Overlea-Fullerton communities.

Within the past year, BCRP celebrated a revitalized Hamiltowne Park, the in-progress construction of the Rosedale Recreation Activity Center and is gearing up for a large-scale park renovation and enhancement project at Holt Park and Center for the Arts in Overlea.

Most of Hazelwood Park’s acreage will remain wooded, preserving natural green space in the densely populated community.
