BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — On Tuesday, June 18, 2024 former Republican state senator Daniel Hall took the oath of office for Raleigh County Commission.

Hall takes over the seat left vacant following commissioner Dave Tolliver unexpected death on June 3, 2024.

Commission President Greg Duckworth and Commissioner Linda Epling appointed Hall, who had challenged Tolliver in the last primary, coming in second on the primary GOP ticket.

“He was on that ballot two years ago and received several, several votes from Raleigh County, so the precedent of him is going to bring a lot,” President Duckworth said following the regular meeting. “He’s got a lot of knowledge. He’s got a lot of contacts. He’s been involved in the public for years, and we’re just really excited to work with him.”

Hall is from Tolliver’s district and will be appear on the general ballot as the GOP candidate in November, squaring off against a Democratic candidate for Tolliver’s seat.

Hall said on Tuesday he plans to carry out Tolliver’s legacy of infrastructure development.

“I want to continue the work Commissioner Tolliver worked on. I mean, he was working on water and sewer projects around the county, along with a variety of other things, but I think it’s important,” said Commissioner Hall. “The citizens of Raleigh County elected him two years ago, and I think we owe it to those citizens, and to Dave Tolliver, to continue the work that he was doing.”

Business development and continued support for the county’s fire department is high on Hall’s agenda, he said.

Like his predecessor, Commissioner Hall said he also has an interest in the Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Department.

“Lake Stephens is on my end of the county and it’s a great place that people from all over this county love to go visit and use as a public park,” Commissioner Hall said. “I think resources need to continue to be placed there, to improve that.”

Commissioner Hall said he is also invested in finding a solution to a growing number of stray dogs in Raleigh County.
