Tonight’s SpaceX launch will be visible in Maricopa

Another of Elon Musk’s Starlink missions launches in T-minus two hours and Maricopans will have another chance to spot the liftoff.

Countdown is expected to begin at 8 p.m. from the Vandenberg Space Force Station in California. Liftoff is slated for 8:40 p.m., although it could be as late as 11:36 p.m. depending on weather or other issues.

This means if you’re chowing down on a late dinner at 8 p.m., you might still be able to see the cometlike light streaking across the sky before your favorite late-night shows end (without wondering if it’s aliens, if you see this article in time).

Rockets for the California-based private spaceflight company’s high-speed satellite internet have become a frequent sight in Maricopa in recent months. One rocket in February held up traffic while being transported through town. In May, residents spotted strange lights in the sky that were determined to have been either a SpaceX mission or “space junk.”
