Lots to watch in the tropics, nothing to fret about along the Northern Gulf Coast. First two names on the list are #Alberto & #Beryl .

First things first, Potential Tropical Cyclone One’s forecast remains unchanged.

Potential Tropical Cyclone One’s forecast remains unchanged. System’s large size is impeding quick organization.

System has another 12-18hrs or so to become #TropicalStormAlberto before landfall in Mexico Wednesday. Sizeable heavy rainfall event for sections of south Texas along with gusty conditions & minor/moderate coastal flooding.

For south Louisiana, passing showers & few downpours continue Wednesday along with minor coastal flooding(1-2ft), & breezy conditions. We get hotter & drier by late week/weekend…likely approaching heat advisory criteria.

n addition, National Hurricane Center is now highlighting a low, 30% chance of development over the next 7 days in the southern Gulf & Bay of Campeche.

Both the GFS & Euro highlighting weak development possible by late weekend-early next week. Model guidance today continues to provide a few more clues about the upcoming steering pattern.

Models are coming into better agreement that the ridge over the southern U.S. will keep any tropical mischief pinned in the southern Gulf, preventing this disturbance from lifting towards the northern Gulf. Additional heavy rain likely into south TX/Mexico.

It’s something worth checking back in on over the next few days as the steering pattern becomes more fine-tuned, but nothing of imminent concern to the northern Gulf Coast.
