    Juneteenth, a federal holiday since 2021, commemorates June 19, 1865, when slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned they were finally free. Sulphur Springs residents celebrated Juneteenth with a parade Saturday morning, where colorful float featuring local royalty and freedom messages, followed by an afternoon of food, fun and fellowship at Pacific Park.

    Attendees had all the brisket, hot links, beans and banana pudding they could eat.

    Kids beating the heat at the splash pad and hula- hooped it up for prizes.

    On Sunday, another day of celebration at the parkcapped off with gospel music.
