“We Have A Friendship, We Don’t Have A Romance” – Kevin Costner Shuts Down Rumors He Is Dating Singer Jewel

Kevin Costner is ending the rumors that he is cozying up to singer Jewel Kilcher. This spring, shortly after Costner announced his divorce from his wife of 19 years, they were seen getting cozy on Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. The two were attending a charity event that Branson was hosting, but images highlighted that the two might have been more than just attendees, as Jewel was on Costner's lap, with Costner embracing her. Shortly after rumors began swirling that the two were together, Jewel made a public statement that did not confirm nor deny that the two were an item. In an interview with Elle , Jewel coyly responded to the rumors , and the journalist noted the flush her cheeks gained when asked about the Yellowstone star. “'He’s a great person,' she says, blushing, adding that 'the public fascination is intense for sure.'” Rumors subsided when Costner ramped up the press work for his forthcoming film, Horizon: An American Saga , and many were focused on the personally funded $38 million project instead of his love life. That is until Howard Stern brought it up in a recent interview. Stern asks Costner if he is in love, and Costner quickly jumps in to answer. "No, no, no... No, Jewel and I are friends; we have never gone out. Ever. She's special, and I don't want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that is what we have. She's special... I mean, she's beautiful enough to go out." "Go out" means dating in old people talk... sorry, Kevin. Even with the admitting "no," the last statement seems as though he might be willing to explore something more. Stern then asked how rumors like that get started (cough cough, do you sit in the laps of all your friends?). "We were down at Branson's island; she has a foundation, which I didn't know. She was a part of the foundation, and Richard Branson has been asking me for years to come down to Necker Island, so I finally did. I'm divorced, all of a sudden, I'm a single father, and he's asked me, you know, for ten years to come down there. I said, 'Well, I guess I'll go down.' I got on a plane with nine people; Jewel was one of them. Emma Watson was on there, and seven other people who weren't celebrities. We were the only three celebrities on the island for three days down there, and then we flew back. She was somebody that I just had some tremendous conversations with, and along with Emma. But, what happened was the word rumor was that I went down there on a private plane with her, I went back on a private plane with her, I was on with nine people." Costner notes again how he wishes their friendship to stay intact despite what the press is insinuating because he sees her as intelligent and beautiful, but dating is not in their cards. Stern is left nearly speechless after his explanation because he, too, was having "fantasies" about what was happening between the singer and the actor. Costner even said his kids were in the same boat as Stern, believing the media that their dad was pursuing the singer. "We have a friendship, we don't have a romance. We've not...we've not dated. She's beautiful and smart enough for all of those things, it just has never happened for us." Given that Costner is in the thick of shooting parts three and four for Horizon: An American Saga, it would not surprise me if his love life is taking a backseat.
