LOUDON, Tenn. (WATE) — A proposal to increase property taxes in Loudon County is set to be voted on in the next commission meeting on Monday, according to a Loudon County Schools official.

The increase proposal is reportedly spurred by cost estimates on projects for Loudon County Schools. Director of Schools Michael Garren shared in an email Wednesday that the proposed projects would need a .25 cent tax increase to be funded.

Currently, the property tax rate is at 1.51, so the proposed increase would be $1.76 per $100 assessed value.

Garren gave a presentation to county commissioners about the school system’s capital projects request at the commission’s June 17 workshop meeting earlier this week. The total estimated cost was around $111.5 million, according to a document in the workshop agenda.
