Pouring rains put a stop to the inaugural St. Peter Skate Jam on Saturday, but organizers are bringing the event back to Veterans Memorial Park on Friday, July 12.

The event promises to be a celebration of all things skateboarding. Between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. community members are invited to bring out their boards for a night of gnarlyness in the Veterans Memorial Park hockey rink. Boarders can have fun navigating custom-made obstacles constructed by David KelseyBassett and Dan Kapernick while competing in contests for beginners and more advanced riders. Perform the highest ollie, the longest manual or the best trick and winners may just go home with a prize.

In addition to the pop-up skate park, visitors can enjoy meal provided by live food trucks and a lineup of live musicians performing songs reflective of the skating scene. The Skate Jam will also feature several raffles for a chance to win skateboard decks and Creature completes.

The event is free, but donations and raffle funds will go towards ongoing efforts to finance a permanent pop-up skate park facility at Veterans Memorial Park.
