Educator and conservationist Adam Arroyo has been appointed to complete the Cuero City Council At-Large term of Emil Garza, who vacated the seat to become mayor.

“I’m at the age where it’s time to give back,” Arroyo said. “Being from here, I like doing that here.

I was part of the original Boys & Girls Club founding board.”

Arroyo grew up in Cuero, graduating in 1988. He attended Baylor University and started his career as a coach and educator in 1995. He has been back in Cuero since 2020 and is the Cuero ISD assistant athletic director as well as a football and golf coach.

“I spent three years in the oilfield, then they wanted me to move to Midland. So I went back into education, which is where my heart is,” he said.

A father of three, Arroyo’s two oldest are attending Texas A&M and his youngest son is a freshman at Cuero High school.

In addition to service in Cuero, he has been the president of the Guadalupe Valley Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) for five years. Wildlife management has been a lifelong interest in addition to sport fishing.

Arroyo’s two biggest catches so far are a 27 ¾ inch trout and a 42 inch redfish.

The term for his council seat expires next year, and Arroyo said it is a good way for him to see how he likes the position. If he does, he can run for it next spring.

“I hope to keep making Cuero friendly and safe for those here and those visiting” he said. “And I want to support businesses – all the new ones that have come in and keep that going.”
