CHESTERTOWN — Chestertown Police Department are investigating the theft of Pride flags and other rainbow-themed items taken from the Emmanuel Church on Cross Street earlier this week.

Police said they have multiple suspects in the theft of Pride flags (representing LGBTQ+) that occurred over the weekend and “appropriate charges will be pending.”

According to Cpl. Chris Schwink, there were a total of nine thefts reported in multiple locations, including Cross Street, High Street, Greenwood Avenue and Philosophers Terrace.

He confirmed all of the suspects were from “out of town” and male.

On their social media Facebook page the police posted, “We want everyone to know this type of hate will not be tolerated in Chestertown. If you are a victim of anything similar, please reach us at 410-778-1800.”

“Nobody’s been charged yet and it’s still ongoing,” Schwink added.

The investigation is headed up by PFC Meera Srinivasan.
