The DeWitt County Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1029, hosted a steak dinner on June 11 and awarded scholarships of $1,000 to five graduates for their 750-word essays, responding to questions about the U.S. presidency and fair elections.

Approximately 30 seniors submitted essays, and the five winners were Kasey Kimes, Audrey Netardus, Tanner Fuchs, Truitt Luddeke and Leeann Leck.

The essay prompts were “What are the constitutional requirements for becoming the president of the United States? Also, what part does the federal government have in ensuring a fair and honest election?”

“Your hard work indicates an attitude toward success and sets a high standard for others to emulate,” Hank Chinnery said as he announced the awards. “We look forward to your success as the future leaders of our country.”
