WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A warning is being put out by the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department on rental property scams.

Police say suspects are advertising apartments for rent in the area and having people fill out a lease agreement.

Officials say after the lease agreement is signed they ask for payment in the form of Apple gift cards.

Once the gift cards are sent to the suspect, a time and date are set up to meet at the apartment, but when the prospective renter arrives, they find the apartment is already rented.

Wilkes-Barre Police say to beware of these scams and that you should see the apartment before any money is exchanged.
