BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Fourteen parcels of land in Raleigh County are now annexed into a Fayette County city.

The Raleigh County Commission approved a request yesterday from the City of Mount Hope and the owner of the properties, Northside Properties, for the land to be annexed into Mount Hope.

The annexation is for future development purposes.

Raleigh County Commission President Greg Duckworth said it is common for towns to fall within multiple different counties.

He cited the town of Smithers in Fayette and Kanawha counties, and the town of Bluefield in Mercer County, W.Va., and Tazewell County, Va., as examples.

“It’s not uncommon. Those happen, where cities will be in two different counties,” said President Duckworth. “So they’ve got about three miles of roadway there, to come to those 14 parcels.”

He said taxes on the Northside Properties land will continue to be paid in Raleigh County and that local law enforcement agencies will organize jurisdictional duties.
