Assembly Bill 12, signed into law last October, says regardless of whether the residential property is unfurnished or furnished, only one month’s rent can be charged in addition to any rent for the first month paid on or before initial occupancy.

He had several very infected wounds and was barely holding on when his rescuers rushed him to the vet. Once there, x-rays revealed the horrifying truth that Winks had been shot numerous times around his face and neck. These injuries resulted in him having his eye removed. Despite that, Winks has made a miraculous and full recovery. He certainly does not let his handicap slow him down at his new foster home. Winks was truly given a second chance at life, and now all he needs is a family to call his own.

It was like pouring gasoline on the already fiery partisan battles about the law. Republican politicians started to echo the myth. Death panels were quickly all over the news. In an entirely well-intentioned effort to play umpire for the American people, the news media sought to provide the facts including, and especially, by debunking the lie about death panels. Pundits, reporters, and experts on television news and newspaper stories provided the truth—there were no death panels in the law. Some of the facts may have reached the public, but what people mostly “heard” was a constant refrain: DEATH PANELS. In the end, the lie was elevated—not debunked—and the news agenda was hijacked by the misinformation it was trying to correct.

I recently mentioned this phenomenon to a fentanyl user who told me about the xylazine connection.

A 53-year-old man from Douglas was recently arrested after local drug detectives executed a search warrant at an apartment in the Crown Villas complex. According to a preliminary report from the Coffee County Drug Unit, detectives conducted the search on June 27 based on prior cocaine purchases made at the location. Upon entry, detectives found Alyn Franklyn, identified as a black male, in the master bedroom. During the search, one detective discovered a small brown plastic bag/wrapper containing suspected crack cocaine on top of the microwave in the kitchen.

The Denver City Council voted Monday to spend $5 million to shuffle 250 homeless people from the street directly into leased housing. The contract goes to Housing Connector, which has experience in such matters, according to a memo from city staff to the City Council. Extra money is included in the contract for things such as unexpected repairs, said Midori Higa of the Department of Housing Stability. She said if someone has a bad day and breaks a window, a replacement will be covered.

Many return to street encampments when their time in the pallet shelter runs out, Jessica Prosser, homeless services director for the city, said. Then, the city sweeps the encampment again, and they get to come back to the shelter for another 30 days, Prosser explained. This process can repeat multiple times.
