MARION, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A 14-year-old boy is dead after the horse-drawn carriage he was driving collided with a train in Marion County Wednesday.

The Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) said the crash happened at about 4:40 p.m. on County Road 5.

Edward Gingerich, 14, of Marion, was operating a horse-drawn carriage north on CR-5 when he lost control of the carriage. The carriage then hit the side of the train, ejecting Gingerich from the carriage. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSHP was assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Scioto Valley Fire and EMS, CSX rail company, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

    The crash remains under investigation.
