    Parents charged after two-year-old girl drowns in Lincoln County

    HAMLIN, WV (WVNS) — The parents of a two-year-old girl were arrested are facing child neglect charges after the young girl reportedly drowned in a Lincoln County pond.

    According to a West Virginia State Police press release, at 9:30 PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, troopers from the Hamlin Detachment of the WVSP responded to a report of a drowning on Scary Creek Road in the Hamlin area of Lincoln County. Once on scene, a two-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy were found in a nearby pond.

    After the kids were recovered, they were immediately taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital. While the three-year-old boy remains in stable condition, the 2-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.

    An investigation was opened and the parents of the children, Jack Parsons Jr., 30, and Tara Adkins, 24, were both arrested and charged with

    Child Neglect Resulting in Death and Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury. Both are currently awaiting trial at Western Regional Jail.

    The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
