Country star Mark Chesnutt posted a statement after undergoing an emergency surgery over the weekend.

Chesnutt is hailed “one of the most signatured country music voices of the 90s and a honky tonk mainstay for more than three decades,” per the announcement shared to his Instagram account on Wednesday (June 19). The Beaumont, Texas-born singer-songwriter, 60, “experienced a heart health issue,” and was hospitalized on Sunday evening (June 16). “Mark underwent emergency quadruple bypass surgery.”

Chesnutt confirmed in a statement that he will cancel upcoming performances as he recovers from the emergency procedure. As of publication time on Thursday (June 20), Chesnutt’s website shows his next performance is scheduled for Thursday, September 5 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming shows,” Chesnutt said. “I send my love and gratitude to my family and friends, the band and fans for your understanding, prayers and support, and look forward to seeing you all again soon at a honky tonk near you.”

The announcement on Chesnutt’s Instagram page arrives months after Chesnutt’s team announced that the country star was “undergoing a medical evaluation,” and was admitted to a local hospital. His team requested respect for the family’s privacy as the singer-songwriter recovers.
