Thunderstorms move through West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thunderstorms tracked through West Michigan Thursday afternoon, bringing rain, hail and warnings from the National Weather Service.

A tornado warning was issued for part of Ionia County shortly after 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Barry County was initially included, but it was removed from the warning area early. Around 4 p.m., a tornado warning was issued for parts of Kent and Ionia counties and initially scheduled until 4:45 p.m., but was expired early around 4:15 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning for Kent and Ionia counties ran out at 4:30 p.m., with the National Weather Service warning of a threat of quarter-sized hail and winds at 60 mph, as well as the risk of a tornado. One gust of 61 mph was recorded at E. Division Street NE and Wolverine Boulevard in Rockford, Storm Team 8 said.
