    Third death in last 2 months reported at Campbell County Jail

    JACKSBORO, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate a third death at the Campbell County Jail since April.

    A TBI spokesperson said that agents have been requested to investigate the circumstances of an inmate death that happened Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Mikaila Cherokee Perciful, 26, of Knoxville.

    The investigation remains active and ongoing, spokesperson said.

    On April 19, Gary Wayne Burriss, 47, was found dead at the Campbell County Jail , and Faith Evans, 29, was found dead on April 26 .

    Campbell County Sheriff Wayne Barton released a statement in May that said the two deaths were not caused by any action or negligence by sheriff’s office employees, nor were they caused by an overdose . The sheriff’s office said both Burriss and Evans had preexisting medical conditions before their detention.

    A TBI spokesperson said in May that they are awaiting autopsy results and both investigations remain ongoing.
