Chef Johnathan Shillington is already flailing. He may have been a one-hit wonder after rocking the first charter. But only time will tell. It feels like Jono may be in over his head though. The Below Deck Med star never worked in a restaurant and is self-taught. Then he gets cast under Captain Sandy Yawn , who has a reputation for mico-managing her chefs.

So with the second charter meals already a bust, and Jono called to the bridge, what are the complaints against him and what is the “huge red flag” that Captain Sandy identified? Here’s your preview for Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 4.

Sandy wants to “assess the next charter”

In a sneak peek, the conversation between Sandy and Jono was shown.

“So the primary came to me this morning. The spices were too strong and the eggs were cold. Not sure why that is,” Sandy began.

“I got a note saying they wanted breakfast at 8:30, so I had it ready for that time. Obviously, it was delayed because they had a slower morning. I tried to hit them up…” Jono answered.

An incredulous Sandy understood then how it came to pass that cold eggs were served to charter guests on a luxury yacht.

“But eggs are to order right? So tomorrow make sure the eggs are to order,” she responded.

Jono quickly departed after meekly saying he would “check in with interior.”

In a confessional interview, the decades-long Captain explained why she was so concerned about Jono’s performance.

“For a chef to say to me that he cooked the eggs when breakfast was supposed to start, instead of cooking to order, is a huge red flag,” Sandy said. “But at the same time, he did well last charter. We’re mid-charter now. I have to give the chef the opportunity to show me that he can do this. Finish this one strong. And then I will assess the next charter.”

So Jono stays for now, despite the cold eggs.
