    Evacuation orders lifted after Double Fire burns over 10 acres in Yuba County

    (FOX40.COM) — A fire in Yuba County prompted officials to issue an evacuation order on Thursday for parts of the community of Brownsville, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.

    Brownsville is a largely rural community nestled in the hills about 25 miles east of Oroville. Most of the community is under evacuation warnings, with one area ordered to evacuate. Updated advisories can be found at this link .

    As of 10:37 a.m. on Friday, the fire is 70% contained and all evacuation orders have been lifted.

    Evacuation centers were activated at the Sycamore Ranch and the Yuba County Posse/Animal Evacuation Center.

    Around 6:30 p.m., Cal Fire provided an update on the Double Fire, saying that the flames are holding at just under 12 acres with retardant lines surrounding the fire.

    “Fire is in heavy timber and access is difficult. Crews have made access to the fire and are making progress. Smoke will be in the area,” the agency said.
