    Victory League June 15-16

    Below are summaries of local Victory League baseball games between June 15 and June 16, compiled by Nick Tabatt.

    Rebels win home game against Brewers

    The Fort Ripley Rebels hosted the Pierz Brewers Sunday, June 16, walking away with a 6-4 victory. The Rebels’ Jack Shafer pitched two innings, throwing one strikeout and allowed two walks. Isaac Hanson pitched seven innings with six strikeouts.

    The Rebels’ hard hitters include Josh Kossan with three RBIs. Alex Haapajoki had two RBIs and one run. Those who hit a double on the team were Haapajoki, Bill Sather and Chris Smolke. The Rebels ended the game with nine hits and no errors.

    The Brewers’ Gunnar Wicklund pitched two innings, throwing two strikeouts on the mound. Rylee Rauch threw five strikeouts in six innings. Wicklund went 3-5 at the plate, hitting a double and one RBI. Chock Boser and Phil Zynda both earned two RBIs. The Rebels finished the game with nine hits and no errors. The Rebels had six hits and four errors. The Brewers had six hits and four errors.

    Bluejays play Swanville and St. Stephen

    The Upsala Bluejays hosted St. Stephen Sunday, June 16. The game was close, but the Bluejays fell 2-0. Matt Swanson pitched all nine innings, throwing four strikeouts and allowed five walks. Swanson also went 2-3 at the plate, earning one walk. Justin Cichon went 1-2, including hitting a double, a walk and hitting a sacrifice hit. St. Stephen had 10 hits and one error while the Bluejays had seven hits and two errors.

    The Bluejays also traveled to take on the Swanville Swans Saturday, June 15. The Bluejays won 9-1. The winning pitcher, Matt Swanson and Bryce Binek hit one home run each. Those with RBIs were Swanson, Binek, Cohl Clear, Jeremy Mugg and Jack Primus. Bluejays had two errors and seven hits.

    Binek pitched four innings, throwing eight strikeouts. CJ Clear pitched three innings, throwing four strikeouts. Nick Frieler pitched one inning, with one strikeout.

    The Swans’ Travis Barthel and Noah Urman led the team at the plate, going 2-4. Zach Gapinski went 0-3, but earned a walk and a run. Troy Evans pitched over six innings, throwing five strikeouts. Noah Urman pitched for over two innings with one strikeout.

    Swans lose to St. Wendel

    The Swanville Swans fell in a home game against St. Wendel, losing 11-4. The Swans’ Levi Beseman pitched seven innings with two strikeouts and four walks. Travis Barthel pitched two innings, threw two strikeouts and allowed four walks. Beseman hit two doubles and and one RBI. Other Swans who also hit doubles were Tren Dinius and Shane Lambrecht.

    Cubs beat Flensberg and Sobieski

    The Randall Cubs traveled to Flensberg, winning with a 17-0 shutout in seven innings Sunday, June 16. The Cubs’ Nathan Benning was on the mound for five innings and threw nine strikeouts. Travis Wenzel pitched for two innings with two strikeouts. Carter Gwost went 3-5, with a home run, three RBIs and four runs. Alex Gwost and Matt Otremba earned two RBIs each and a run. Alex Gwost also stole two bases.

    The Randall Cubs beat the Sobieski Skis at home, Saturday, June 15 with a 11-1 victory in seven innings. The Cubs’ Matt Otremba and Zach Gwost each have one home run each and two runs. Those who hit a double were Caleb Strack, along with Carter and Zach Gwost. Strack also pitched seven innings, throwing 12 strikeouts.

    The Ski’s Collin Eckman had the team’s only run in the game. Eckman and Jake Kapphahn also earned a stolen base. Dusty Parker pitched over four innings on the mound, throwing six strikeouts. Matt Filippi pitched over one inning with one strikeout.

    Billygoats beat Lakers on the road

    The Buckman Billygoats traveled to take on the Pierz Lakers, coming over top with a 5-0 victory. The Billygoats’ Ben Thoma threw seven strikeouts in five innings on the mound and allowed four hits. Aaron Weber stepped in for four innings and threw one strikeout and allowed one hit. Taughtes went 3-3 at the plate, with two walks and two runs. Lane Girts and Noah Boser had two RBIs. The Billygoats had nine hits and and two errors.

    The Lakers’ Carter Petron threw eight strikeouts in six innings. Chase Becker pitched three innings and through five strikeouts. The Lakers who who hit a double in the game were Brady Petron Kolten Happke. The Kakes had five hits and two errors.

    Skis shut out Freeport.

    It was Skis domination in Sobieski, as the Skis upsetted Freeport 14-0 in seven innings, Sunday, June 16. The Skis’ Beau Thoma pitched all seven innings, throwing seven strikeouts and allowing three walks. Joey Hanowski and Collin Kray each earned a home run and one RBI. Collin Eck man had two home runs and four RBIs. Alex Thoma hit two doubles. The Skis had 13 hits and no errors while Freeport had eight hits and no errors.

    Bulldogs fall short to Nisswa

    The Pierz Bulldogs traveled to Nisswa Sunday, June 16. The Bulldogs lost 14-2 in seven innings. Gunnar Gustafson went 2-3 at the plate with one run. Nathan Posch also earned a run and made his first Victory League hit.

    Riverdogs take on Foley and Aitkin

    The Royalton Riverdogs fell to Foley Sunday, June 16, losing 1-0. They also hosted Aitkin on Saturday, June 15 but was suspended. Notifications and stats were not made to the Record by Press Time.
