GHENT, WV (WVNS) – The summer season is officially here and many people are planning to hit the road.

Summer is the season of vacations and this means a lot of traveling. As the summer goes on, more vehicles will be on the road.

Lori Weaver Hawkins, Public Affairs Manager with AAA Blue Grass, explained that the need for gas is increasing and this could continue for a little longer.

“Now, we have seen that demand come up a little bit in mid-June. The last data I have available has jumped from 8.94 million barrels a day for demand to 9.04. That’s a little bit higher and we might see this trend continue as we get to midsummer here and that July travel month,” said Weaver Hawkins to 59News.

Weaver Hawkins said oil prices play a huge factor in the price of gas. She said global events are unavoidable and these can affect gas prices as well.
