United Way of Long Island has launched the Young Professionals Network (YPN) to engage a new generation of leaders in both community service and philanthropy.

Its members hail from such sectors as banking, insurance, legal, accounting and transportation. They share a commitment to United Way's mission, which the organization states is to improve education, financial stability and health across Long Island.

The group is holding its first networking event, featuring a cornhole tournament, at Blue Point Brewery on Aug. 1, at 6 p.m. And the organization is inviting young professionals to join the network and attend the Aug. 1 event.

A host of Long Island businesses are supporting this event, including title sponsor Boluvas Restoration, as well as platinum plus sponsor Bethpage Federal Credit Union, platinum sponsor The Mosquito Guido, and gold sponsor Ruskin Moscou Faltischek.

"We are excited to launch the Young Professional Network as a platform for young leaders to make a positive impact on families who live on Long Island," Theresa Regnante, president and CEO of United Way of Long Island, said in a news release about the new group and its first event. "Our kickoff event not only brings people together for a great time but also supports the education pillar of our mission to help students succeed."

Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Long Island’s Stuff-A-Bus program, which provides essential school supplies to elementary-age children regardless of their economic status, to help ensure that they have the tools for a successful academic year.

Those who have already joined the network said they find the group rewarding.

"We're excited to bring together a dynamic group of young professionals who are eager to make a tangible difference in our community,” Lauren Grasso, co-chair of YPN, said in the news release.

“The event is just the beginning of what we can achieve together as we support United Way's mission to improve education and ensure that every child has the tools they need for a successful academic journey," Grasso said.

"Being part of the Young Professional Network is an incredible opportunity to drive positive change and support meaningful causes like the Stuff-A-Bus program,” Brendan Bateman, co-chair of YPN, said in the news release. “We're looking forward to building a strong network of dedicated young professionals who share a passion for giving back and making Long Island a better place for everyone."

Participants can register individually or as teams for the cornhole tournament, with prizes awarded to the top performers. The event will also feature drinks, food and raffles. Learn more about the group and event here .
