A Tavern that had closed in Arcata Plaza is being transformed into a new restaurant. Located at 764 9th St, the distressed building that once belonged to Toby & Jack’s is finally getting a clean-up and makeover as Habibi Bar and Grill makes its way to the plaza. This news was first seen in The Outpost .

Operated by brother-and-sister Toheed Ahmad and Maria Khalid , who are Pakistani-immigrants and came to the Bay Area in the 1990s, the new restaurant will offer a fusion of Indian, Pakistani, and Mediterranean cuisine with a full bar for cocktails, liquors, beers, and wines.

According to materials submitted to the planning commission, the pair plans to fully renovate the existing building, including a renewed exterior and a new sign on the front, a remodeled train car-shaped dining area, and a covered patio with outside seating in the alley.

Ahmad told the Outpost that the new restaurant will be a mix of casual and fine dining featuring classic Indian dishes (curried, lamb, chicken, goat, etc.), a variety of spinach-based and other vegetarian dishes, pani puri, mixed vegetables, dal and ‘definitely some barbecue,’ including fish, lamb, beef and chicken.” The article also mentioned that the new restaurant will stay open late for certain cultural nights.

Ahmad had not replied to What Now Sacramento’s email request for comments by the time of this coverage.
