New information on Trempealeau County homicide arrest

New details have been shared in the Trempealeau County car crash-turned homicide investigation.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim -- 36-year-old Kyle Dahl of Ettrick -- was killed in what appeared to be a car crash on May 15.

His autopsy later revealed that he died due to a gunshot.

During the ensuing investigation, the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office received surveillance footage showing a red sedan following Dahl's car.

In a witness interview, authorities learned that Todd Gieck was the driver of the red sedan and that he was "high amped" and "fast paced."

The witness also claimed Gieck fired his handgun at Dahl's car and heard the sound of glass breaking.

They saw Dahl's car drive off the road and Gieck drove his car in the other direction.

In a recorded jail call, Gieck allegedly claims the shot was “an accidental discharge”.

Gieck is currently held in Trempealeau County Jail. He faces multiple charges including first degree reckless homicide.

He appeared in court for a bail/bond hearing Friday. Court records show the judge intends to recuse from the case due to “the victim being an employee of the county that works close with the court system.”

Bond was not set and Gieck will be held until a new judge is assigned.
