One parent was over the moon about their baby name when they chose it, but the public has them second-guessing their choice.

It was a moniker that checked all the boxes in what they were looking for in a baby name , but now they’ve turned to Reddit users to see if the name is odd.

They wrote: “When I was looking for baby names after finding out the gender, I wanted a name that was strong, masculine, but short and easy to spell.

“Something common, but never in a top 10 list. I eventually settled on Silas. I love his name so much and I feel like it fits him very well.

“But I always get mixed reactions, and never anything overwhelmingly positive. I wonder if it's because it is a strong name for such a little baby? :( It was number 81 in 2023 and has been on quite the upswing for some time in the US, so I don't understand why others don't like it.”

Reddit users left their comments on the interesting baby name.

Quite fond of the name, one person said: “Silas is not bad at all.”

Showing how common the baby name is, someone else said: “I have a nephew named Silas.”

Very into the name, someone else commented: “I love it!”

There were quite a few people that seemed to really love the name. One of them was someone who chose the name for their own son.

They wrote: “My sons name is Silas. I assume I read it in a book a thousand years ago and it stuck. I started to refer to him in my head as Silas and I've never regretted it ever. People either say oh that's an awesome name or Cyrus then I correct them and they say it's cool.”

Someone else who liked the name said: “Silas is a great name. Classic, unpretentious, traditional yet not common.”

And an educator who had a student with the name said: “I taught a Silas. Cool kid. I think it’s a good name too.”
