Baby's 1st Attempt at Walking in Shoes Is So Cute People Can't Stand It

One of the biggest perks of having a baby is getting to buy all kinds of cute stuff — from toys to clothes to (perhaps most of all) adorable little shoes. Of course, just because you think something is super sweet doesn't mean your kid is going to like it!

In a video posted on June 20, a baby girl is at the store, trying on a pair of shoes for the very first time...and it's apparently the most hilarious thing that's ever happened to her! She seems to like the miniature pink Crocs on her feet well enough, but she has no idea how to walk while she's wearing them.

"She didn't know what to do ," wrote @katsmoot613 . It's like she thought the whole thing was a big prank ! At that age, walking is tricky enough when you're barefoot...throw footwear into the mix and all bets are off. Commenters had similar experiences to share.

"My daughter did the same thing! She was so confused ...like where are my feet?! Lol," wrote Angela.

"My second didn't move if she had shoes on for a solid 2 months. It was kinda nice. If I needed to get something done, I would put them on for a few minutes and I knew she would be safe," wrote Coffee iced& attitude chilled.

Hey, whatever works! At least parents can take comfort in the fact that eventually, the vast majority of human beings figure out how to walk while wearing shoes .

When Should Babies Start Wearing Shoes?

As Happiest Baby reported, "your baby does not need shoes until they start walking. The only thing younger babies need on their feet are socks to keep them warm ."

Even after little ones start walking, they don't need to wear shoes all the time.

"Babies should wear shoes when walking outside or on uneven surfaces. But indoors, barefoot is best for your baby’s still-developing feet. (Often, babies won't even tolerate shoes while they’re busy trying to master walking!) Again, when your baby’s tootsies are shoe-free, it bolsters their muscle strength, plus it encourages balance, posture, and coordination. If you feel your baby needs a little something-something on their feet, you can use booties or socks with non-skid bottoms to prevent slipping while walking inside."

When the time comes for your baby's first pair of kicks, look for lightweight shoes with flexible, non-skid soles, and make sure they fit correctly (there should be approximately a thumb's width of room in the toe box). As this video proves, a dry run in the shoe store might be a good idea!
