Lets face it, many of us have been faced with the problem of having something ugly in our yard that we can't afford (or are just unable) to get rid of. And while it's tempting to ignore the problem, sometimes the best solution is simply to cover it up.

That was what one woman wanted to do when she was sick of staring at the ugly fence in her backyard. But her plan had entailed using some trellising to obscure the eyesore was quickly foiled when she learned just how expensive trellises can be.

Instead, of splurging on all of the expensive supplies she would need, she came up with a clever and inexpensive way to solve her problem. We have to admit, this is pretty brilliant!

This is my favorite area of my backyard makeover so far because I like to come outside and check on the progress of the vines. I would have spent soooo much more money without the tip from my local garden center so everyone should get advice from their own! Keep in mind there are a lot of different ways you can do this hack, whether it’s with chicken wire, normal wire, wood planks etc. no need to spend a ton of money.

The $10 fix shared by @taybeepboop is a really easy one to duplicate, and we're glad she gave her follower step-by-step instructions so that they could do just that.

All you need is the eyelet screws you'll be using to set up your trellis, something sturdy to train your plans on (she opted for plastic covered twine), and of course, the plants!

The end result is going to be simply stunning and it will do exactly the same thing as the more expensive option will, but at a fraction of the price!

You can use a lot of different methods to create a trellis . Take a look at some of these clever alternatives to a store-bought one below.

Just About Anything Can Be Used as a Trellis

If you can set it up to have plants climb on it, it can be a trellis! From this woman's twine idea (this is perfect for when you want to have a lot of flexibility with your set up) to building a big solid structure , the sky is the limit.

You also have a lot of options when it comes to the plants you use with your trellis. For example, you would normally think that only climbing plants work well with a trellis, but the reality is that you can trellis lots of things , including tomatoes!

Check out how this woman built a stunning tomato trellis for her backyard, creating a nice little structure to support her veggies that also looked really nice in her garden.

DIY Trellis Makes a Beautiful Fence Cover

We're really glad we saw this woman's clever idea, because we love multi-dimensional gardens that have a lot going on at every level! Adding a few DIY trellises to outdoor spaces just became a whole lot affordable, and we think we're going to have to try out this idea and see if we can't make it work in our yard, too!
